...these are a few of my Favorite things....

did you start singing the song?? be honest!

well, this time of year is by far the BEST! i love it. and it reminds me of some of my favorite things...so, i will share.
favorite thing no.1:

christmas lights. it's magic really. something about the town covered in lights makes everything seem so romantic. and let's face it, i'm a sucker for romance!

favorite thing no.2:

Traditions. Forgotten Carols is one of our favorite traditions. while james and i were dating we went to forgotten carols with my family. we were kind of at a turning point in our relationship. we were either going to end it, or take it to the next level. so when Micheal McLean asks the audience to sing "we will be together forever someday" it was a little awkward. i went in for a 'hand-hold' and got the DEAD FISH! so every Christmas since, james takes me...and holds my hand!! this year, he combined it with our "i love you day" tradition. through our marriage we've had many many 'i love you days' where one of us decides to suprise the other with a whole day dedicated to them! this month, james's 'i love you day' was forgotten carol tickets for a date night to come. one of the Best "i love you days" yet. i got a whole day of being spoiled PLUS the promise of a future date!

favorite thing no.3

Making the house festive. i love decorating and Christmas just gives me another chance to do so. for the whole month of December we light christmas candles, sip mint hot cocoa and just enjoy the holiday lights and decor. and some nights when we don't have other things going on, we take long drives to see all the other neighborhoods all decked out. there are some that we are in AWW of and others we snicker at.(hopefully not yours!) but either way i LOVE it!

favorite thing no.4

shopping and wrapping. they go together. because no matter what you buy the ones you love, it's nothing unless wrapped well! i'm a little OCD if all the wrapping paper under the tree doesn't match. i also can't give a christmas present unless it's tired with real ribbon....not the curly crap! it just seems more special that way! i love going to the mall a week or so before christmas and just wonder around. people watching, i guess you would say. i love watching people truly emersed in spending their own hard earned money on someone other than themselves. i love watching them try to pick the most perfect item for that special someone. and knowing that EVERYONE in the whole mall is thinking of others' needs instead of their own. (or at least, i pretend they are!) i love all the charity's that set up donation tables and love watching them collect money for a good cause. i just find it rejuvenating for the year to come. maybe that's why i don'r shop on BLACK FRIDAY. you just dont get the same feeling when your watching people push, shove, cus, and hollar.

favorite thing no. 5

and lastly, but certainly most important. i love remembering the REASON FOR THE SEASON! i love reading Luke 2 of the birth of our Savior and the miracle that it was. i love remembering that it is because of Him that we celebrate this special holiday. we always watch 'The Nativity' on Christmas eve and feel of the spirit it brings. i feel so blessed to know the truthfulness of His gospel. i am grateful for my knowledge of His life and example and that He went on to suffer and die for my sins. and that through Him i can become whole again. i know that families are eternal. i know He loves all of His children. and i love the opportunity this season gives, to remind me of all these truths.
