the BIG compromise

james and i are almost ready to make a really big compromise..
james wants this..

i want this...

let me explain.
something about driving around an old junker makes me feel young, free, full of life! something about meeting in the middle with an SUV, crossover or minivan (yep, never gonna happen with the minivan!) makes me feel like i'm only a 64oz-diet-coke-in-the-cupholder away from being the typical mormon mom! {don't get me wrong...i love a good mormon mom!} lucky for me i don't like forcing carbinated acid down my esophagus. but it's only a matter of time before soccer balls occupy the back seat and i'll have to start looking for a vinyl consultant to make the stick-figures for the back window (that too...is out of the question!...until, of course, the prophet says it's mandatory for exaltation!)
so what do we do. should i start searching for the man that bought off my cute high school sentra "Russ T."? or is it time to give up my free-feeling life and start loading up the soccer balls and kickin it into 4 wheel drive instead of the unexpected adventure of the snowbank park job?? (oh, the fun of sliding into the snow!)

people i need some help here. should i hold my ground on this one????
{did i mention i don't want to grow up??}

I honestly think that once you do make the leap to a vehicle you know is going to start every morning you will wonder what took you so long to do so.... things like heated seats make you not miss the sliding into snowbanks. :) My other opinion is that unless your hubby is going to drive it all the time then you should get the final say.

p.s. Diet coke rocks the house! It is the very key ingredient that carried me through pharmacy school. (which I think IS actually banned by the prophet) Habit forming? No.... I didn't get a headache whenever I was without.. (cough, cough) Yikes... addicted. Yes, I guess I was! oops

As of the minivan.... David wants one too. He even wants one before kids. Weird, I know. But they really have nice features. I am still going to hold on to buying something like a Murano or CR-V before I jump to a minivan. I think you should stick to your grounds about whatever you feel is important. That is the key I guess, to figure out what really IS important and what is just a battle to win.
I was a personal fan of the silver civic. "lundstrom park anyone?" Too bad the best stories generally didn't have the best endings. That was SO much fun!

Compromise!? Here is what you do,.. Get whatever car you want,... and REALLY good car insurance, that way, you can drive it like you did in high school {watch out school busses! ;)} And incase of crashes,.. fully covered right!? what about a 64 oz Dr Pepper!? I figure if it's got Doctor in the name,.. it's gotta ba good for ya! right!? New SUV all the way girlie! (I'm hoping Santa knows I want one for Christmas! ;)

Totally with you on the minivan!! Yikes...

I just got an Explorer and I LOVE it. It's not too big but big enough and now I don't bash my head on the ceiling when I get the kids in and out. I recommend one of those!

thanks girls. i have heated seats right now, they sometimes make me feel like i peed my pants. and i drive an explorer right now too. i'm just not sure i'm ready to commit, if you know what i mean. why can't i just live out the ol high school days again running into yellow buses, playing "tag" in the cars and finding myself in a ditch covered in snow! so many more adventrues with a run down car. so not cool to have too many luxuries in life. besides...i'm thinking i'd rather spend money at j.crew or disneyland! seems so much more practical to me :) he he!

oh and don't worry marci a., that cutie is still getting some driving time. i love that little car!! perhaps i should have mentioned that our vehicle situation is a bit complicated!

Hmm some how I feel like you were describing me when you were describing mormon moms. SUV...check, 64 oz diet coke...check, stick figures...hmm must of missed that memo. I vote SUV! We all know I have a pretty sweet track record for totaling cars lets make that 2! And I only feel safe in an SUV so much better in the winters.
I laughed so hard when I read Amandas comment I totally forgot about the BUS! Haha good times! : )

hmmm I say you bring back Russ T!
i'm in the market for a new car too. hard decisions. Although I won't be having the stressful question of a minivan or not... unless its cool for a 24 yr old single woman to drive one? who knows these days!
Good Luck

Seriously dear, I would go with the truck! I never thought I would say that, but after my husband got one I fell in love with them! They are super fun to drive! (Makes you feel young!) Hope you two decide soon! :-D

Remember how Russ-T had another nickname after the bus incident? (Biff) it made me think of my blazer (Jiff) and Kara's honda Cliff. cousins to biff :) and I missed it and you and high school. Sad I know. It was only for a minute so don't worry.

How about save your money and drive the ford explorer mom and dad are letting you borrow. Save the money for grad school!

I too had to swallow my pride and now drive a minivan. Everyone told me how much they LOVE their minivan. I will tell you right now I hate it! Before the minivan Jason bought me a Jeep liberty. I LOVE my jeep. I don't get to drive it much because our family has out grown it but I do love a nice fun sporty SUV. I am confident in the snow, I like being higher up and not sitting on the road and it has a great turning radius so I can get into any parking spot. So I say dump the old junker and get something fun. You only have 1 kid so avoid the minivan as long as possible!!!!
