disappointment

james and i promised bowen a bicycle as soon as he was potty trained! we thought it was a great trade off. well, bowen stepped up his game and was potty trained in a matter of five days. literally...done. we have been so proud of him and he loves sporting his new "underwears!"

so, yesterday was the big day. "bike day!" bowen and i loaded up the car (oh wait...i don't do that anymore. i don't have to bring diapers anywhere!!) anyway, we got in the car and headed into town to pick out the coolest bike a two year old could ask for. we started at kmart. (i was hoping for something on the under $20.00 side) they had nothing. really...nothing. of course bowen would have been completely satisfied with the only bike there that was plastered with Dora. but i knew dad wouldn't like that and i talked him into "shopping around first"

next stop...north walmart. agian, not a single boy bike in the mix.

off to shopko....nothing. notta. just a helmet and some knee pads. (which we don't need without the bike!)

last stop/hope: south walmart. we entered with high hopes. knowing that we've seen the perfect bike there in the past and we were sure to be riding high in a matter of minutes with a new hip bike!

we turned the corner for bikes and saw pink. more pink. more pink. more pink. nothing even remotely resembling a bike of the male gender. 9 pink, sparkly ones and not a single boy bike.

i started thinking that there must have been a fabulous sale on boy bikes that i missed. a sale that covered the entire county. we walked out of the store completely disappointed.

bowen said, "mom, i'm not happy anymore!" which made me so sad.
he sported this frown the rest of the night. as did i.

who knew we'd have to plan a long-distance trip in order to hold up our end of the bargain. next time we'll promise him a cupcake, a day at the pool, hey even disneyland. just something i KNOW i could get my hands on.

That is so sad, poor Bowen. I can't believe that no one had a boys bike! Hopefully you will find something soon and turn that frown upside down :)
Good job Bowen!

I might just make your day.. I bought I darling 'boy' bike for Stockton for his birthday in February but I got it last September on sale and didn't tell Chad. Well Christmas morning Santa showed up with a bike for Stockton all put together so I still have the birthday bike in the garage in the box. It was 20 bucks!!

It's green and super fast looking according to Makiah...

Let me know!

that is funny! I guess he will do what it takes to get what he wants. I can't believe you couldn't find one boy bike. Sad day for cute little Bowen. Although that picture of him frowning makes me smile, he's adorable. You need to come back over to the neighborhood for another play day, if the sun ever decides to shine again.

What a sad story! Poor boy, at least he had a sweet mom that didn't stop at the first store. He must have known you were really trying. He is so cute! I've seen a few boy bikes in Iowa.... hey it's only 19 hours away!?

remember, the HUFFY UPROAR bike from Kmart...it's orange and black. it's the absolute best bike for little ones to learn on!! hopefully they'll have more in. it cost me I believe $40 but well worth the money!

Awww...he looks so sad, but so cute at the same time! Hope you can find a bike for him, I can't believe how unfair shopping is for little boys. Good luck! If I'm in the Riverdale Target in the next couple of days, I'll check there for ya!

Good job, Bowen!

I'm feeling a little guilty now... the only thing Kaayl got for being potty trained was a pat on the back and a "good job!" (Maybe that's why it took us a little longer than five days...) I hope Kmart gets their boy bikes back in soon. Poor Bowen! Maybe a cupcake and a trip to the pool for the little guy in the meantime...

Finally you post a new picture of Bowen and he's frowning! But absoluting darling anyway. I hope he know's what kind of shopper his mom is...she does not give up easily! He will have his bike and it will be perfect. Meanwhile he learns the value of patience and that's a good thing! Love and miss you both!!

Did you try Smith's Marketplace or the often forgotten Kings. They have a big bike selection downstairs.
