first stop: Abakrampa

immediately after arriving in ghana we drove two hours to Abakrampa. Home to some of my parents dearest friends. One member had been saving "fowls" for a couple weeks for our arrival and was so excited to feed us a fufu dinner. {fufu is dough made from casava plant and plantains. they bang them into a wooden bowl with a stick until it's doughy then serve it with soup. this time our soup was chicken.} we had a field corn appetizer to begin with. if you've grown up on a farm, you know that field corn is NOTHING like our sweet corn at the grocery stores. it was hard but manageable.

while Alice was making the fufu we visited with the children in the village. we fell in love pretty quick. this little girl was having bath time. which was interesting to watch. but if you try to get a photo of one child, you get the whole village.

james and i had the hardest time finishing the fufu. i know i said it was chicken soup, but that includes every part of the chicken; testicles, feet, beak, bones...everything. it was a little hard to choke down. i felt really bad and finished at least half but i couldn't go on. i felt a lot better when i gave my bowel to these three boys and they we SO excited. they finished it in 2 minutes flat! (oh ya, did i mention that you have to eat all this with your hands. that was hard too!)

Ok, this sounds amazingly cool (all except for the getting-there part... not so fun). Keep posting...
